SDP: IF WE WIN LAWSUIT, CALL FOR BY-ELECTION. IF WE LOSE, GRC SYSTEM IS MOOT

The following is a repost of my replies to 2 concerned supporters on my personal FB regarding Singapore Democratic Party (SDP)’s lawsuit to push for a by-election in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC:

Thanks for your viewpoints.

I can’t agree more with Lawrence’s comments about speaking up on the truth.

Even though the odds are stacked against him, Dr Tan Cheng Bock proceeded to challenge the legitimacy of the reserved Presidential Election.

He did it with the same intention as us, the SDP.

Win or lose, we strive to raise the awareness of the public on our Constitution & on the fact that the PAP has time & again, altered the rule of law to its political advantage but which is ultimately detrimental to the rights of our citizenry.

We cannot allow this abuse of power to continue. It is our duty as a political party in the opposition to raise questions which concern us all. After all, that is what checks & balances are about, isn’t it?

Political cost cannot be measured & quantified in monetary terms. The fundamental rights of our citizens are priceless & must be defended at all costs.

If we win the lawsuit, then a by-election is imminent. If we lose it, then the PAP loses too because it can no longer convince the populace that the GRC system is used to ensure minority representation.
