51 year-old Reichie Chng Teck Kiam faces 152 charges in court for misusing the name of the Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence Ong Ye Kung to commit cheating and forgery offences.

He is accused of 94 counts of committing forgery, 35 counts of cheating, 22 counts of converting the benefits of his criminal conduct and 1 count of obtaining a personal loan from a bank despite being an undischarged bankrupt.

Between November 2012 and March this year, Chng had cheated 12 people of between $2,000 and $250,000 each. He has since made restitution totalling $51,680.

On 31 August last year, he captured a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between himself and Mr Ong about an investments scheme that the minister was purportedly participating in. He used the electronic record to cheat his victims.

Having been made a bankrupt on 26 August 1994, Chng allegedly obtained a personal loan from another victim without telling him he was an undischarged bankrupt.

Chng is now a GrabCar driver.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years jail and a fine for each charge. He is due to appear in court on 11 October.
