A netizen was approached by a man asking for $30 in cash because he allegedly has to rush to “NUS Hospital” to see his cancer stricken mother.
When the netizen became suspicious, the man handed him a Samsung phone as collateral to assure him that he would return him the cash.
Suspecting that something strange was up, and not have enough cash on him at the moment, the netizen moved on.
However, he posted the story on a popular local forum to seek out others who might have encountered the man and to confirm if the man he had encountered was indeed a scammer.
The netizen wrote: “I’m guessing this was one of those moments where you question if this guy is legitimate or not. Why would he need $30? An Uberx from there to NUS hospital only costs $8-10 and that’s all.I was also a little wary of him because he was asking other people too.”
