The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has launched a Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) case after a whistleblower made allegations about possible corrupt practices in the operations of the Port of Singapore Authority and Jurong Port.
A netizen named Kelvin submitted an image showing parts of an email chain, which contained several allegations of favoritism shown towards a certain shipping company, alleged wrongful financial accounting practices, and perks being given to certain individuals.
He also attached an official response from the MPA written by Ms Ang Chin Chin confirming that an official CPIB inquiry has been opened due to “the severity of the allegations” as per the protocols of the organization.
Kelvin, who claims to have been working as a Stevedore for 38 years in PSA and Jurong Port, wrote of his intention: “For posting this article, I hope to create awareness and for people whom are working or already resigned from Jurong Port, to come forward to give your evidence and let the court settle for us.”
“If this were to carry on, Singapore’s status as a world class Port will soon be lost and all competitiveness will be gone. Especially with our neighboring countries improving everyday.”
The MPA has confirmed that the case is under investigation.
