A security guard who was caught proclaiming that he was an Ang Soon Tong (Secret Society) headman was arrested yesterday by the Singapore Police Force.
A police statement revealed that the 45 year-old man in the video was arrested on charges of being a member of an unlawful society. The SPF warned that it takes a stern view of people who engage in or are associated with gang-related activities.
The video was posted online last Tuesday and has since gone viral.
In the video, the man could be seen cursing at another person on the phone and challenging the man to meet up in Punggol, possibly for a face-to-face settlement.
The Ang Soon Tong is a historic local secret society which has been in existence since the 1950s. Some of its illicit activities include gun-smuggling, drugs, illegal moneylending and illegal gambling.
The infamous "One-eyed Dragon", Tan Chor Jin, who shot a nightclub owner in Singapore several times before attempting to flee prosecution in Singapore was also an Ang Soon Tong member. He was hanged for committing murder.
For being part of an unlawful society, the security guard faces up to a $5,000 fine and/or 3 years jail.
