S’PORE HAIDILAO BRANCH FINED AFTER STAFF CAUGHT HANDLING FOOD WITH BARE HANDS

Haidilao has gotten into trouble with the National Environment Agency (NEA) after one of its staff at an unnamed branch in Singapore was caught handling food with bare hands on 8 August.

The NEA has since issued Haidilao with a summons, while the branch manager Jacky Fang says that appropriate actions have been taken with the staff.

This incident comes amidst greater scrutiny on the popular steamboat chain, which got into hot soup after hidden videos showed serious hygiene lapses at its native Beijing outlets.

In the videos, one branch was shown to be infested with rats. Another video showed a staff using utensils to fixed clogged sewage troughs in sinks or dustpans being emptied into the sink where customers’ dirty dishes were being washed.
