PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION TO HELD ON 23 SEP, NOMINATION ON 13 SEP

The Singapore presidential election will take place on 23 September if more than 1 candidate qualifies to run for the position. Nomination day will be held on 13 September.

This according to news reports which announced an Elections Department statement today, which confirmed that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has issued a writ of election.

If there is only 1 eligible candidate, he or she will start the presidential term on the working day after the Nomination Day.

Applications from candidates must now be submitted within 5 days after the writ of election is issued.

Mr Salleh Marican and Mr Farid Khan have already submitted their papers to the Elections Department.

As this year’s election is reserved for Malays, interested candidates also have to submit a Community Declaration form to the newly established Community Committee to certify their “Malayness”, in addition to the usual Certificate of Eligibility.
