ACADEMIC’S APPEAL REJECTED BY ICA, MUST LEAVE SG WITHIN GRACE PERIOD

A former academic with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and his wife will have to leave Singapore “within a stipulated grace period” following the rejection of his appeal by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for being a foreign agent of influence.

According to the MHA statement issued today, Dr Huang Jing and his wife, Yang Xiuping, both US citizens, will be permanently banned from entering the country. With the rejection of his appeal, Dr Huang will no longer have any recourse to challenge his expulsion.

Singapore authorities wrote that Dr Huang was found to have interacted with a foreign country with the aim of influencing Singapore’s foreign policy. The foreign country was not named. His wife was also aware of his activities. The couple have denied any wrongdoing on their part.
