SCHOOLING BREAKS OWN SEA GAMES RECORD TIMING TO PLACE 1ST IN K.L.

National swimmer Joseph Schooling has outdone himself again with a new SEA Games record at his first event, the 50M butterfly, today in Kuala Lumpur.

Schooling, who came in with a timing of 23.06s, shaved off 0.46s off his old record of 23.49. Indonesia’s Triady Fauzi Sidiq came in second less than a second away at 24.01s.

Schooling’s timing is slower than his Asian record for the 50m butterfly, which was also set by schooling at 22.95s last month at the Fina World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. He finished 5th in that race.

Schooling told the media: “The first swim is always a little nervy. But I am happy with the result, couldn’t have asked for a better start, and hopefully I will get better as the meet goes along.”
