10 US sailors are reportedly missing after the USS John S McCain, a guided missile destroyer class vessel collided with a Liberian flagged oil tanker off Singapore’s coast at 5.24AM this morning.
The US navy destroyer struck the Alnic MC east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore.
This is the 2nd collision since June this year, when 7 sailors died after the USS Fitzgerald slammed into a container ship off the waters of Japan.
The commander of the US Pacific Fleet announced that the Republic of Singapore Navy’s (RSN) tug boats, navy ship RSS Gallant, and RSN helicopters are out in force to locate the 10 missing US sailors. Another 5 sailors were left injured during the accident.
The warship had been due to arrive in Singapore for a routine port visit.
