CHAMPION EMPLOYER REFUSED TO PAY MAID’S WAGES FOR 1 FULL YEAR

A 30 year-old woman was charged on Tuesday for failing to pay her maid’s wage for 1 full year, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) announced today.

Li Jun, a Singaporean, faces 13 charges for breaching the Work Permit Conditions under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.

She had failed to pay her maid, a Myanmar national, any salary between 7 March last year and 21 February this year, which amounted to $5,700 in total arrears.

She faces up to a $10,000 fine and imprisonment of up to 12 months or both per charge. Her case will be heard again on 12 September.
