Dear A.S.S. Editor
Singapore is ready to welcome it’s Malay president in September, that is certain. This will be the first time in 47 years that Singapore will have a Malay president again, after Yusof Ishak. And to the presidential candidate Halimah Yacob, an affirmation of two core values Singaporeans hold dear: multiracialism and meritocracy.
She said it demonstrates Singaporeans can “accept anyone of any colour, any creed, any religion, at any position in our society, so long as they feel that the person can contribute”. Hello! In case you didn’t realise, this presidential election is reserved specifically for Malays, it’s not like Singaporeans have any chance to vote other people. So sure, if you say so, Singaporeans really can accept anyone of any colour, creed, religion, etc etc, just because we are having a Malay President by September.
And what about meritocracy? If anyone really thinks this Presidential election is all about meritocracy, good for you. This is just another in a daily exercise of pushing the agenda, and painting Mdm Halimah Yacob as a worthy candidate. Her campaign has already started, all thanks to the mainstream media. Let’s not waste time, and just welcome Mdm President to the Istana already.
