58 Y.O. WESTERN UNION ROBBER UNMASKED, DEMANDS $1K FROM PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO SNAPPED HIS PICS

The man behind the daring robbery of $1,000 from a Western Union branch in Ubi has been unmasked and brought to court to face charges on Saturday.

58 year-old Hashim Hamzah, was charged with armed robbery and arrested on Thursday night along Pasir Ris Drive 6 following a 3 day manhunt.

Last Tuesday morning, he allegedly went into a Western Union branch at Block 301, Ubi Avenue 1 wearing a helmet and a mask to hide his identity. He used a knife to threaten a staff not to shout, and demanded for money. He initially took $4,000 but dropped some of the money when he fled on a bicycle. The rest of the money was later found near the carpark area behind the branch.

The sole female employee was not hurt and no other person was at the outlet at the time.

If convicted, Hashim faces up to 10 years jail and up to 12 strokes of the cane.

When police brought Hashim to the scene of the crime, he shouted at photographers taking his photo, saying: “Who want to take my photograph, S$1,000!”
