Police confirmed that a viral video of 3 Singapore Police Force (SPF) officers taking down a suspect and getting injured in the process was a result of a chase between the police and the suspect, who was reportedly suspected of drug-related offences and drink driving.
The man had been asked to stop his motorcycle, but had refused to comply with police instructions. He attempted to flee by riding dangerously in Ang Mo Kio on 4 August but the police eventually caught up with him. The suspect then turned violent and caused injuries to 3 police officers in the process.
All 3 officers received medical treatment at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. One of them is still hospitalized because of head injuries while another is recovering from a broken thumb bone.
The SPF issued a statement of thanks to members of the public who stepped forward to help in the arrest.
