A woman was injured and taken to Changi General Hospital after the escalator she was on at Rivervale Mall stopped suddenly, causing her to tumble down more than 10 steps. The middle aged woman was taking the escalator at the mall in Sengkang from the second storey to the first floor, when it allegedly jerked to a stop.
An eyewitness said that the woman had just gotten on the escalator, and fell at least 10 steps down before reaching the bottom. Others on the escalator behind the unfortunate woman had managed to hold on to the handrail, preventing them from falling as well.
SCDF conveyed the woman to CGH, but her injuries were not made public.
