The People’s Republic of China’s embassy officials are in talks with the Philippine’s Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to bring more Filipino “Household Service Workers” to 5 major PRC cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen. Attractive incentives offered include a fat 100,000 pesos monthly for services rendered.
100,000 is roughly equivalent to $2,700 in Singapore dollars.
A delegation from China will visit the Philippines in September for further negotiations, according to Philippines media. Reports state that Chinese officials want to hire more Filipino HSWs because their command of the English language will help their children in their studies.
Labor Undersecretary Dominador Say added, “Filipinos are also peaceful compared to other nationalities.”
PRC officials are reportedly also trying to improve ties with President Duterte using their decision to hire Filipinos instead of other nationals.
“They will not have approached us if they are not serious with their desire to hire Filipinos,” Say said, adding they would wait for the results of the meeting with the Chinese delegation in September to determine when the deployment can start.
