TWO DEBTOR TURNED LOANSHARK RUNNER ARRESTED

A 25 year old woman has been arrested by the police on Monday, for her suspected involvement in a loan shark activity in Sengkang. The woman was alleged to have set a HDB unit on fire. Loanshark gravity was also written on the walls of the affected unit.

The woman was understood to be a debtor-turned-runner and had committed the harassment on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender. The unit was burnt last Friday. In another case, a 48-year-old man was also arrested on Tuesday along Geylang Road for his suspected involvment in loanshark harassment. The man allegedly sprayed a residential unit in the vicinity of Telok Blangah with paint. Loanshark-related graffiti was also found written on the wall.

Both of the loanshark runners will be charged in Court today. first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment could be jailed for up to five years and fined between S$5,000 and S$50,000. Male offenders could also get up to six strokes of cane.
