Olympic champion Joseph Schooling has missed out on the men’s 100M Freestyle semi-finals spot at the FINA World Championships.
He placed 17th out of the top 16. He was beaten by Serbian swimmer Velimir Stjepanovic, who clocked 48.80s in the event held at the Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
Australia’s Cameron McEvoy finished the fastest at 47.97s.
Schooling will compete in the next event, the 100M Butterfly on Friday. He won Singapore’s historic gold medal in this event in 2016.
He swam the 50M Butterfly on Tuesday, where he finished 5th.
