PEATLAND FIRES ON THE RISE IN INDONESIA, HAZE EXPECTED TO COME BACK TO SG?

Dear A.S.S. Editor

It has been reported that 5 provinces in Indonesia have declared state of emergencies as peatlands burn in Aceh and the risk of fires spreading are increasing in the annual dry season.

Indonesia have confirmed that they have deployed 18 helicopters to help extinguish the fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan. Satellite images also showed that the number of fires had actually increased from 150 on Sunday to 179 on Tuesday.

It was also warned that the fires will only continue to worsen in the coming months, as the peak of the dry season is expected in August and September.

So, time to thank Indonesia for the fresh air we have been getting thus far before the haze returns back in August?
