The Land Transport Authority finally released a statement about what happened this morning. It said the North-South and East-West lines were delayed due to intermittent power caused by a loose service maintenance door at a tunnel at Tiong Bahru MRT station. Train services had to cease for half an hour at 11.30am this morning as engineers remove the loose door safely.
“As a precautionary measure, the Land Transport Authority has asked SMRT to do a system-wide check on all the service maintenance doors. We are investigating the cause of the loosened door to prevent it from recurring. This incident is not related to the on-going tests of the new signalling system on the North-South Line.”
Both lines experienced delays for more than 5 hours today. The delays began at 6am although SMRT only announced it more than an hour later. The North-South line service resumed at around 10.20am while the East-West line resumed only at around 2pm.
