Netizens who reacted negatively against the flag of Singapore at Changi Airport being flown in the opposite direction have gotten it all wrong, say some other netizens familiar with military flag representations.
According to these military experts netizens, the flag is shown flying backwards because the soldier in the statue must be depicted as moving forward against the wind. if the flag is shown flying in the correct orientation, it might mean that the soldier is going backwards in retreat.
The flag also appears in this same orientation in the Basic Military Training Camp's monument for national servicemen in Pulau Tekong.

The United States flag is also similarly represented in US military monuments and statues.
