PAP MP ZAINAL SAPARI VOUCHES FOR HALIMAH YACOB’S MALAYNESS

People's Action Party member and parliamentarian Zainal Sapari has stood up to vouch for Madam Halimah Yacob's "Malayness" on his Facebook yesterday.

Madam Halimah's ethnicity has become a flashpoint of controversy recent following her announcement that she is eyeing the presidential election reserved for Malay candidates. According to Madam Halimah's birth, she is an Indian Muslim by ethnicity because her father is Indian and Singapore's administrative system categorization of "race" is patrilineal.

The issue has even ignited a battle in Wikipedia over Halimah Yacob's entry, with netizens fighting to omit or publish the fact that she is a "Singaporean politician of Indian descent".
