PRC TRIED TO BRIBE POLICE OFFICER, GETS JAIL INSTEAD

Dear A.S.S. Editor

A Chinese National, who was already arrested for illegal bookmaking activities at the Singapore Turf Club in July last year, was instead sentenced to four weeks jail for trying to bribe a police officer while recording her statement at Jurong Police Division.

Yu Xiaorong, 48, offered a $1,000 bribe to Inspector Lam Wai Kit to cease enforcement action against her when she was arrested on July 17, 2016, but Inspector Lam rejected the bribe and a report was subsequently made with the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).

Reports did not indicate if she will be further punished for her illegal bookmaking activities. It was also not known if the Chinese national was here as a tourist, or in Singapore as a work permit holder.
