Dear A.S.S. Editor
Yet another foreign woman, this time from Kazakhstan, was jailed for offering bribes to a police officer. Yelena Kalugina, 26, had offered the officer $2,150 in exchange for not arresting her.
She was jailed for four weeks for her offence, after admitting offering the bribe to Inspector Loh Loong Ee. Inspector Loh and his partner were responding to a call of a suspected vice activity at Hotel Royal along Newton Road when they went to Kalugina’s room, where the reported illegal activities were taking place.
It was during the questioning by Inspector Loh that Kalugina pleaded to be released, and subsequently offered the officer cash and a promise that she would take the next available flight home. Officer Loh rejected the offer and arrested her.
