HEARTLESS EMPLOYERS STUFF 44 FOREIGN WORKERS INTO ONE GEYLANG FLAT

44 foreign workers were stuffed into a 4-room Geylang flat which had been converted illegally into a dormitory.

The Ministry of Manpower conducted a raid on the premises after a tip off from the Migrant Workers Center (MWC). They found unsanitary conditions, including cockroaches in drawers, blood trails from squashed bed bugs and a dirty fridge after they searched the flat.

Conditions were so overcrowded, workers had to hang their clothes on their bunk beds because there was no laundry space, and even cooked next to their beds because queuing for the kitchen stove took too long.

The workers were hired by different employers but were housed in the same dormitory.

According to Singapore law, no more than 6 unrelated persons can stay in a rented private residence.
