MAN RAPED LOW IQ TEEN WITHIN ONE HOUR OF MEETING HER

A 27 year old truck driver was sentenced to 16 years’ jail and 24 strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty to one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault by penetration of a 19 year old with an IQ of 71. The man, Muhammad Iskandar Ismail, violently raped the single mother of a one-year-old boy with heart problems within one hour of meeting her.

The woman, who cannot be named, was assessed by psychiatrists to be in the borderline range of IQ and her level of adaptive functioning – how well a person can handle the common demands of life – was assessed to be in the borderline to low average range. On 16 August last year Iskandar met the woman via a mutual friend at the void deck of her block of flats. Within an hour of meeting her, Iskandar asked the woman if she wanted to “hang out” with him. She agreed, as she was bored and thought that Iskandar, who was drinking beer at the time, would not harm her.

At about 10.30am, she went to his flat in the same neighbourhood and had her breakfast while he took a shower. It was after he had a shower that he started touching her, and after being told to stay away, Iskandar forcefully pulled her towards him, touching her and hugging her tightly. She refused his demand for sex and made excuses to go home but he said she could only leave at 11.50am and took her phone away from her. He pushed her down and sat on top of her chest as she struggled and shouted at him to stop. Instead of stopping, he slapped her left cheek and throttled her as she cried out in pain. He proceeded to sexually assault the teenager.

After the sexual assault, he begged the woman not to tell the police. However, the woman made a police report that same day and Iskandar was arrested shortly before 9pm at the Woodlands checkpoint when he tried to flee to his mother’s home in Johor Baru after getting a phone call from a police officer.
