PASSENGER DIES IN UBER CRASH, CAR DRIVEN BY 22 YEAR OLD. TOO YOUNG?

Dear A.S.S. Editor

Should more be done to regulate the private hire drivers? LTA has rolled out many regulations that just took effect recently, in order to ensure private hire drivers are properly qualified, including having the drivers take a test to ensure they can get a Private Hire Driving Licence, similar to what taxi drivers have.

Yet, the news of a backseat passenger losing his life in an accident involving a Uber car puts things in perspective again. The Uber car crashed into a tree along Xilin Avenue on Sunday morning, and the 22 year old driver, who was not injured, have been arrested for causing death by a negligent act.

A 31 year old male passenger was found motionless and subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics. Was this a case of the young driver being too inexperienced to be driving a Private hire car? Or too reckless, chasing to get more passengers to break even for the day?

Whatever it is, a young man has lost his life in a car crash driven by an even younger man.
