A 78 year old grandmother Madam Zhuo was victim of a robber but chased him down eight flights of stairs to wrestle back the necklace her late daughter gave her. The robber was sentenced to 2 years jail and received 6 strokes of the cane.
This incident took place in June 2016 at blk 678 Hougang ave 8. The grandmother was returning home after grocery shopping when the snatch thief struck. When the lift reached the 8th floor, the snatch thief grabbed the grandmother and ripped off her necklace before running away. As a result of this sudden assault, her groceries spilled onto the floor and injured her shoulder.
However as the necklace was a gift from her daughter who passed away from a terminal illness, she used all her strength to fight the robber and get it back. She chased him from the 8th storey to the void deck and he escape in a taxi. He was arrested later at around 11pm.
