STEALING CODEINE AND COUGH SYRUP AND MAKING $16K PROFIT, WOMAN FINALLY CAUGHT FOR ILLEGAL TRADE

A female student, who was working as a part time receptionist at a medical clinic in Bishan, was sentenced to three months in jail for stealing 684 bottles of cough mixture and 24 bottles of codeine to sell them off illegally.

The woman, Ho Min Pei, 23, was accused of taking $6,840 worth of cough mixture from T P Sim Family Clinic and Surgery between July 2015 and January 2016, and also taking the codeine to sell off to her co-accused, who also happened to be her boyfriend at the time. she had agreed to carry out the theft at the behest of the boyfriend, as she needed the money.

Ho would then receive $25 for every bottle sold by the boyfriend. Based on reports, the market value of each bottle was between $35 – $40. She had made a profit of at least $16,500 from the illegal transactions.

The duo was caught by HSA officers who were conducting an operation to recover the missing bottles.
