I refer to the article “Oxley Road: Conflict of interest accusations unfounded, says SMS Indranee” (Straits Times, Jul 4). It states that “Concluding, Ms Indranee said that Mr Lee Hsien Yang and Dr Lee Wei Ling have “made plenty of allegations but we have not seen any substance and no evidence”.
“I’m sure the MPs have looked carefully through the allegations. (Workers’ Party chief) Mr Low (Thia Khiang) himself had said the siblings provided no evidence. And to me that is most significant, that these allegations are just that – allegations.” I cannot but agree more with the Minister and applaud for making in my view – the most important point of this whole saga.
If indeed, and since all the allegations are “baseless” with “no evidence” – why did so many members of Government take to social media and the mainstream media, to make their own counter “baseless” allegations with “no evidence”? Is it not below the dignity of the Government to resort to such tactics and actions?
Why did we consume so much of everything in the last two weeks or so, to damage Singapore’s reputation internationally, given that the allegations are “baseless” and with “no evidence”? Whilst allegations of conflicts of interest may be subjective – arguably, the actions of those alleged may be crystal clear!
