In his ministerial statement today in parliament, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong continued to address the accusations leveled against him and his government.
Responding to his siblings accusations that he wanted to retain his father’s 38 Oxley Road home in order to “inherit” his father’s political legacy and bolster his own political standing, he said in jest that “if I needed such magic properties to bolster my authority even after being your PM for 13 years, I must be in a pretty sad state. And if such magic can work, Singapore must be in an even sadder state.”
To address concerns that his wife was overstepping her authority, he clarified that his wife was the CEO of Temasek Holdings, but she also reports to its board, chaired by Mr Lim Boon Heng, and its shareholders, one of the largest being the Ministry of Finance under Minister Heng Swee Keat.
“I have every confidence that both Lim Boon Heng and Heng Swee Keat understand the meaning of good corporate governance,” PM Lee said in his statement.
On his son joining politics, PM Lee said that such claims were baseless and that he had never pushed his son to join politics and that his son has also expressed no interest in joining politics.
