VIRAL VIDEO CLAIMS LKY FLIP PRATA ON 38 OXLEY DEMOLITION, SUGGESTED RENO WORKS IF HOUSE PRESERVED

This video is circulating furiously online. It alleges that contrary to Lee Hsien Yang and Lee Wei Ling's statements, Lee Kuan Yew was not adamant about demolishing his home. In the video and another Lee Hsien Loong speech, Mr Lee Kuan Yew's letter to cabinet was read out and LKY supposedly reflected upon and changed his mind on the matter.

LKY was said to have decided that if Oxley road was to be preserved, its foundations needed to be reinforced and it had to be refurbished. This came after LKY's meeting with cabinet ministers, all whom tried very hard to convince and persuade him to not demolish the house.

“Cabinet members were unanimous that 38 Oxley Road should not be demolished as I wanted. I have reflected on this and decided that if 38 Oxley Road is to be preserved, it needs to have its foundations reinforced and the whole building refurbished. It must then be let out for people to live in. An empty building will soon decline and decay.”
