FORTY RESIDENTS EVACUATED AFTER FIRE STARTED BY MISCHIEF IN JURONG EAST HDB BLOCK

Police are currently investigating a fire that happened at a block of HDB flats in Jurong East. It was reported that the fire was apparently started by someone setting fire to a flat, which resulted in 40 residents of the block having to evacuate.

An elderly woman, 75 years old, was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital hospital with a minor injury, police reported. The fire was set at Block 257 Jurong East Street 24, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted at around 1.33pm. The unit that the fire first started in was empty when SCDF arrived to put out the fire.

Police are still investigating the cause of the fire, but it was understood that no arrests had been made yet.
