According to local academic Jasminder Singh, ISIS terror group has included Singapore as part of its East Asia wilayah, a development which could embolden foreign fighters to carry out attacks locally.
Other countries part of the wilayah are Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Southern Thailand, Myanmar and Japan. Singh told reporters that this development guides foreign terrorists and gives them an idea what the targets are and whom to attack.
Security analysts are worried that if self-radicalised individuals in Singapore were unable to travel to the Middle East to fight, they could be left with the only option of carrying out attacks in Singapore.
