CAN THARMAN EXPLAIN WHY LUCIEN WONG WAS MADE ATTORNEY-GENERAL DESPITE CONFLICT OF INTERESTS?

Tharman has just posted a lengthy note stating that they (the PAP) “have a system to preserve the rule of law and of policy-making that balances public against private interests.”

In that case, can he comment on the appointment of Lee Hsien Loong’s personal lawyer, Lucien Wong, as AG?

Was the Cabinet consulted and were they aware of potential conflict of interests in the appointment? And if they were aware, based on what criteria did they consider Lucien Wong suitable to take over as AG?

What safeguards are there to ensure that Lucien Wong acts objectively and abides by the rule of law when he carries out his duties as AG?
