A 39 year-old robber has been sentenced to 7 years jail and 12 strokes of the cane for robbing 2 female victims at a Lorong Limau condominium.
On 25 May 2016, the 39 year-old had lured 2 women to a the condominium unit, and robbed them at knifepoint together with a 43 year-old accomplice. His accomplice is still under trial.
The victims were lured to the condominium after the 39 year-old robber told them that he had a variety of branded handbags in his possession which he wanted to sell in her shop. The women were fleeced of $100,000 in cheque, and a Rolex watch worth $31,000.
The court heard that on the day of the incident, the 39 year-old suspect drove his accomplice to Whampoa market to get the equipment necessary for the robbery, including tapes, a knife and a pre-paid SIM card.
During the robbery, the women were hit and threatened with a knife pointed at them. They were also bound and gagged and had their NRICs taken from them. 2 hours later, after obtaining all their valuables, the robbers let their victims go and warned them not to call the police or they would be hurt.
