WHY IS THE S’PORE OPPOSITION SO FRACTURED & PAP SO DOMINANT?

Given the almost complete dominance of the PAP in both parliament and at the voting booth, It’s strange to see how fractured opposition parties are with there being at least 3 major parties that only form electoral alliances to prevent them from losing their deposit.

What are the major differences between the WP, SDP, SPP, SingFirst etc ?

Why hasn’t the PAP split into more parties in recent history?

Why hasn’t the opposition consolidated as duverger’s law suggests in hyper FPTP system like Singapore ?
