Dear A.S.S. Editor
SMRT, SBS Transit, Tower Transit and Go-Ahead Singapore, the four public bus operators in Singapore, have issued a joint statement that indicated NSmen who wear their NS uniforms can travel for free on public buses and trains on 30 June.
Calling it the “NS50 Free Travel Day”, the gesture is meant to thank NSmen for their contributions. There are no limits as to the number of free trips the NSmen can take. All NSmen, past and present, can travel on the public buses and trains for free on that day so long as they are wearing their uniforms – the No. 3 or No. 4 uniforms for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) servicemen and duty uniforms for Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) servicemen – for verification purposes.
So that means, past NS men, who had finished their Reservist duties, or even those who are still serving their Reservist, but not on 30 June, have to put on their uniforms just to travel for free. After all, the free rides are in honour of their services to Singapore. For the male heroes who last wore a uniform a decade ago, hopefully they can find their uniforms, and then fit inside their uniforms, to be honoured by the free rides.
