COUPLE CHARGED FOR PUSHING ELDERLY MAN OVER TOA PAYOH HAWKER TABLE DISPUTE

45 year-old Chow Chuin Yee and his wife, Tay Puay Leng, 38, have been charged in court for pushing an elderly man during a heated dispute over a hawker center table.

The incident took place on 21 April at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 and was captured in a viral video that stoked anger among Singaporeans who viewed the clip. The clip was posted on 23 April, 2 days after the incident.

In the video, Tay, who had taken a seat at a table, got into an argument with an elderly man who had asked for a place at the same table. When her husband, Chow, returned, he shouted at and pushed the elderly man on the back, nearly causing him to lose his balance and hit his head against the table.

If convicted, the couple face up to $5,000 and jail for up to six months for disorderly behavior and using criminal force.

The trial will resume on 13 July.
