A 33 year-old man living Sengkang who claimed that he was brutally slashed by an unknown stranger has been charged for lying to the police after it was found that his wounds were self-inflicted.

This means that the man had slashed himself repeatedly before going to the hospital, posting his ordeal online on Facebook and reporting his “assault” to the police.

Police investigators from the Ang Mo Kio Police DIvision became suspicious after his statement demonstrated several inconsistencies. Their investigations established that the man had been providing false information and that he had inflicted the injuries on himself.

The police in their statement reminded the public that police resources can be put to better use dealing with real crimes and emergencies rather than false reports.
