Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan is on official visit to China from Sunday to Monday at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Trade and economic cooperation is the main agenda of the trip but observers believe China would take the chance to tell Singapore to stop commenting on issues which affect China’s core interest.
This comes after Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong was not given an invitation to the One Road One Belt summit held last month in Beijing. Academics say this visit show that both countries are trying to mend their frayed ties.
