Madam Bavani and Mr Gunasekaran who live in their five room flat at Block 532 Hougang Avenue 6 has suffered from a toilet leak for 9 years. The leak in the toilet ceiling caused the wall to be damp and mould to grow in the cupboards next to the toilet. Worse still, the dampness got so bad that 3 years ago, Mdm Bavani got electrocuted when she touched the light switch.
HDB and Aljunied Hougang Town Council have tried to solve the problem but the leak always returned after being solved temporarily. HDB has recommended that the external wall be repair but that falls under Aljunied Hougang Town Council.
There are 3 external walls to be repaired and AHTC clarified its contractor had done the repair works using a better grade of sealant weeks ago and just concluded their joint inspection with HDB.
In the meanwhile, the couple could only use stop gap measures like using a pail to collect the leaking water but the sound of dripping water is disturbing their sleep.
