I refer to the article “Every Singaporean plays role in fighting corruption: PM Lee” (Channel NewsAsia, Jun 6).

It states that “Every Singaporean has a role to play in fighting corruption, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Tuesday (Jun 6), during the opening of the Corruption Reporting and Heritage Centre (CRHC) which allows members of the public to walk in and report suspected corrupt practices in person.

Besides the reporting function, the centre also has an educational role to play. Mr Lee said the public can find out more about how the CPIB tackled high-profile corruption cases in the past.”

The following is a list of some of Singapore’s high profile corruption cases in history:-

… National Development Minister Teh Cheang Wan

… Former NTUC Chairman and ex-MP Phey Yew Kwok

… Civil Defence Force chief, Peter Lim

… Edwin Yeo – Head of Field Research and Technical Support for the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB)

… Lim Cheng Hoe – Protocol Chief for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA)

… Bernard Lim Yong Soon – Assistant Director for National Parks Board (NParks)

Does paying the highest public service salaries in the world deter corruption?

What do you think?
