Peak hour delay this evening caused by “system level performance checks on new signalling system”: SMRT

Train service on the NS line was disrupted at about 6.20 pm this evening causing massive crowd pileup on the platform as trains had to stop on the tracks leading to at least 15 mins’ delays.

According to SMRT in an elaborate explanation, this was due to “system level performance checks on the new signalling system” Now this begs the question: why test during peak hours?
