CHINESE UBER DRIVER APPLIES TO RUN FOR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS RESERVED FOR MALAYS

Former Bukit Batok by-election hopeful Shirwin Eu turned up at the Elections Department to collect application forms for the September Presidential Elections meant for Malay candidates.

Candidates are required to apply for a certificate of eligibility and also a community certificate to confirm they belonging to the Malay community. They also have to make a declaration they understand the roles of the President.

When asked if he knew the elections were reserved for a Malay candidate, Mr Eu believed that the verdict was not out yet and the Government may still reverse their decision. He believes that as a next stage for Singapore, we need to have press freedom and all Singaporeans should be allowed to express themselves freely.
