BCA: Cut foreign workers

I refer to the article “BCA seeks to cut number of foreign workers” (Straits Times, May 29).

It states that “The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) wants the industry to do more with less, and plans to slash the number of foreign workers by nearly a third by 2020.

About 300,000 foreign workers are employed in the construction sector. “We aim to do that – to cut it down by 20 to 30 per cent… Whoever is left… will be the higher-skilled workers,” said Dr Keung.

“We want to set our industry on this particular path to the point of no return. We cannot go back to our old ways,” he added.”

1st sector to cut foreigners in a big way

I would like to applaud Dr Keung for what I believe is the first ever major initiative to reduce foreign workers in a sector.

Most rank-and-file construction workers not Sporeans

IT S’poreans worse hit?

As I understand that the bulk of the rank-and-file workers in construction are non-Singaporeans – what is arguably even more urgent is to reduce the foreign workers in the IT sector, as anecdotally Singaporean PMETs are the most affected in this sector.

So much evidence on the plight of S’porean IT PMETs?

To get a greater depth into understanding the plight of IT Singaporean PMETs – I would like to urge you to please take the time to read the following articles analysing the plight of IT Singaporean PMETs:-
