Dear A.S.S. Editor

The recent spate of molest cases sees no chance of dying down, with yet another high profile molest case being brought before the courts today. In the latest case, veteran track and field coach Loh Chan Pew has been charged with five counts of outrage of modesty.

The 72 year old, who is also vice-president (competitions organising) of Singapore Athletics (SA), the sport’s local governing body, was charged in court on Thursday, all with the alleged use of criminal force. The incidents took place between late 2011 to March 2013. In each of these charges, Loh was accused of using criminal force and rubbed the victims’ genitals. The two victims were aged 16 and 18 at the time of the incidents.

The victims was not named to protect their identities. Loh is a well known figure in Singapore Athletics, having been a national sprinter himself in the 1970s. He has since groomed many national sprinters and record holders. Loh was also a former deputy superintendent of Prisons. It is a surprise that a man with such a standing could resort to a vile act of molesting his charges.

At the age where most men would already have retired and lead a quiet life of retirement, Loh continued to coach. Maybe this was just his way of continuing having interactions with young charges, whom he subsequently allegedly molest.
