Dear A.S.S. Editor
I read with amusement the call by DPM Teo Chee Hean, where he said that the public sector has to adapt as Singapore transforms its economy amid global uncertainties. one way that DPM Teo said the public sector has to adapt is by staying in touch with the ground to better address citizens’ changing needs.
He also added that Civil servants must also work closely in a coordinated manner across different agencies, and equip themselves with skills to constantly innovate. Basically, what he is saying is that the public sector must always be in touch with the average Singaporeans, all Singaporeans should work together no matter their differing backgrounds, and that all of us must be fully equipped with skills to better face the future.
Could might as well advise this to his cohort of Ministers himself. Those high paying Ministers don;t seem to be in touch with the common Singaporeans, not with statements like buying milk that is cheapest for your toddlers, or saying HDB flats are affordable to all Singaporeans. And yes, we do see all Ministers working well with each other, when they are out to slam the other elected MPs from the opposition. As for skills to better equip ourselves? Some Minister already said University education is not the guarantee of an iron rice bowl.
So, thank you for the reminder again, DPM Teo!
