PRICE FIXING ONLY BENEFITS TAXI COMPANY, NOT DRIVERS OR PASSENGERS

Dear A.S.S. Editor

Stop publishing rubbish!

I read with disgust letters calling for LTA to step in to set taxi fare standard across various stakeholders. The letter writer must be a taxi driver himself. I am a passenger and I am very happy that free market competition has lowered taxi fares.

Price fixing benefits only taxi companies, not the drivers. Drivers should form their own unions instead of relying in the NTUC government tripod to fight for their right to better salaries rather than trample on commuters right to cheaper fares.

Any bright person should realize that bulk of the profit goes to taxi companies. Instead of raising the fare price, why not protest to have a higher cut of the fare? The ulterior motive of the writer is suspect. Is the writer a shareholder of the taxi company masquerading as a taxi driver?
