Finally, Minister for Education (Schools) Ng Chee Meng spoke up about school mergers. He posted on Facebook that it is a “painful but necessary decision” which he himself “agonised” over.
He still believes this is the best decision even after considering other possibilities. He explained that some JCs will not even be able to fill half of its intake if they were left by themselves, and this will negatively affect students’ educational experiences.
“My educators and I think this cannot be good for our students. We do not take school mergers lightly. We only proceeded with these mergers as we are sure it is for the better for our students to come.”
He knows some people will feel a sense of loss but assured that their heritage will be kept alive although he did not say how it can be done. It is not an easy transition but he hopes everyone can go through this difficult journey together.
Get ready ok, must go through ups and downs together.
